The original Broadway show Anything Goes opened at the Alvin Theatre in November 1934 and ran for 420 performances, the fourth best run of the decade.
The show, based on a book by Guy Bolton and P G Wodehouse and with music and lyrics by Cole Porter was subsequently revived in 1962 for an Off Broadway version, which added to the song list several numbers originally featured in other Cole Porter shows. Thus, while It’s De-Lovely had originally premiered in Red Hot and Blue, and Let’s Misbehave in Paris, they do not sound out of place in the Anything Goes revival. Indeed, the idea proved so successful, later productions of Anything Goes has similarly utilised the same songs.

This album, which features the 1962 cast, has been a much sought after item ever since its initial release.
